Sarawak

A painting of the goings-on in a Sarawak longhouse. Burgess mentions in his autobiography that he stayed a night in one of these structures in the company of a miscellany of local women. The picture used to hang in Burgess’s Etchingham house; it is now to be found in the study centre of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester. Photo: M. Digby
