Honest to God

In discussing the many untruths peddled in The Confessions of Anthony Burgess, artist-blogger Richard Bolam reminds us of Orwell’s line in ‘Inside the Whale’, that

for a creative writer possession of the ‘truth’ is less important than emotional sincerity.

Was Burgess emotionally sincere?
